Sierra Leone Attorney General and Deputy Minister of Justice Meet with ARIPO Director General to Discuss Intellectual Property Development

Guma Building, Freetown, Sierra Leone – Monday, 24 February 2025 – Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., and Deputy Minister of Justice, Madam Saptieu Elizabeth Saccoh Esq., recently held a productive Zoom meeting with the Director General of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), Bemanya Twebaze. The meeting, conducted from Freetown, focused on strengthening Sierra Leone’s Intellectual Property (IP) framework and preparations for the upcoming 4th Heads of IP Offices Conference.

The discussion centered around ensuring Sierra Leone’s readiness to host this pivotal event, which will bring together regional and international stakeholders in the intellectual property field. This collaboration underscores Sierra Leone’s growing commitment to improving its IP infrastructure and contributing to the broader African IP ecosystem.

“We are dedicated to building a legal framework that protects the rights of innovators and businesses in Sierra Leone. By strengthening our IP laws, we aim to foster a vibrant creative economy and attract global partnerships,” said Attorney General Alpha Sesay.

Director General Bemanya Twebaze expressed his full support for Sierra Leone’s initiatives, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in enhancing intellectual property management across the African continent. “It is an honor to collaborate with Sierra Leone as they prepare for the 4th Heads of IP Offices Conference. This event will be an important opportunity for sharing best practices and strengthening cooperation on IP issues across Africa,” assured DG Twebaze.

The 4th Heads of IP Offices Conference, which will be hosted in Freetown later this year, will bring together IP experts, government officials, and representatives from global organizations. The conference provides Sierra Leone with a platform to showcase its progress in IP development while engaging with other African countries to find solutions to shared challenges.
