New York, USA – Thursday, 25 September 2025 – Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, has reiterated the Republic’s steadfast adherence to the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Rome Statute system, and the normative framework of international criminal justice, while addressing the Ministerial Network meeting on the ICC in New York.

Invoking Sierra Leone’s historical trajectory and the jurisprudential legacy of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the Attorney General emphasized that the principles of justice and accountability constitute indispensable pillars for peace, national reconciliation, and sustainable development.
“Our national experience has taught us that impunity corrodes the very foundations of society. It is therefore our solemn duty to uphold the independence of the Court, to honor our obligations of cooperation, and to stand united with fellow States Parties in ensuring that justice—not impunity—governs the international order,” Attorney General Sesay declared.

He further affirmed Sierra Leone’s unwavering resolve to safeguard the institutional integrity of the Court and to remain a reliable partner in advancing the cause of international criminal justice under the Charter of the United Nations.
