The Prosecutions Division is headed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), an office created pursuant to Section 66 (1) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, Act. No. 6 of 1991. The DPP (and by extension the Prosecutions Division) has primary responsibility to: institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person before any court in respect of any offences against the laws of Sierra Leone; to take over and continue any such criminal proceedings that may have been instituted by any person or authority; and to discontinue at any stage before judgment is delivered in any such criminal proceedings instituted or undertaken by himself or any person or authority.
