In a significant step towards strengthening regional cooperation, Dawda Jalloh Esq., the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of The Gambia, today paid a courtesy visit to Alpha Sesay Esq., the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Sierra Leone. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Justice in Freetown, focused on key discussions surrounding constitutional review, election management, and justice sector reform.

Constitutional Review
One of the main topics was the ongoing constitutional review processes in Sierra Leone . Both ministers shared insights and best practices in reviewing and reforming their respective constitutions, ensuring they better reflect the needs and aspirations of their citizens. They highlighted the importance of inclusivity, transparency, and public participation in this process to strengthen democratic principles and uphold human rights.
Election Management
The two ministers also discussed the crucial role of effective election management in sustaining democratic integrity. They exchanged ideas on improving electoral processes, enhancing voter education, and ensuring the credibility of election management bodies. Both parties emphasized the importance of judicial independence and efficient dispute resolution mechanisms in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections.
Justice Sector Reform
Another critical area of discussion was justice sector reform. The Gambian Attorney General shared insights on the country’s recent legal reforms, while the Sierra Leonean Minister provided an overview of their ongoing efforts to strengthen the justice system. Both ministers agreed on the importance of improving access to justice, building institutional capacity, and ensuring the independence and effectiveness of the judiciary to meet the needs of the people.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Alpha Sesay Esq. expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that it was a vital step in fostering closer cooperation between the two countries. He reaffirmed the shared goals of both nations in addressing common challenges and advancing good governance across the region.
Dawda Jalloh Esq. thanked his Sierra Leonean counterpart for the warm reception and expressed optimism that the discussions would serve as a foundation for future collaboration. He emphasized the value of continued knowledge exchange and joint efforts to drive meaningful reforms in both countries.
Both ministers agreed to explore further opportunities for cooperation, including the exchange of expertise, joint programs, and ongoing dialogue on legal and governance reforms.
